Ah, the sweet irony of a 10-10-10 post two days too late. In my defense, I was drunk. But not really. No, I had every intention of writing this on the right day, but I banged out that ill-advised WEBCAMS commentary instead.
Live and learn? Or just die and forget? Fuck, I gotta pee.
(BTW I say "ill-advised" because the rule I usually live by is that I never publish my opinion on a WEBCAMS episode. The reason is that there's been many times--including this one--when I've gone through the entire process of producing an episode and in the end, it just doesn't do anything for me. After I post it online, however, it never fails to receive high praise. So either everyone is afraid to criticize WEBCAMS or I I'm just too critical and too close to each episode. I honestly don't know which it is, which is why I generally keep my mouth shut. You know, usually.)
Among the things that I ABSOLUTELY MUST START WORKING ON NOW is the script for the second episode of Tube Talking. This one is actually pretty high on my to-do list, mostly because I've been promising it to people and, technically, I told someone I had already started writing it. Okay, so I lied a little, but it really was as unintentional as missing the 10-10-10 date for this blog. When I told the person that I had started writing it, I was planning on doing just that in about an hour. I just never got to it. So I wasn't REALLY lying when told her, it just happened to turn into a lie later on.
Yeah, I am TOTALLY rambling here. Click past the break to see if I start writing with any more direction.
Right now, I'm waiting for YouTube to finish their site maintenance. The note says "Be cool -- we'll be back in a bit". I don't know how long "a bit" is supposed to be, but I've been waiting to upload my Tuesday episode of krumbinesBRAIN for what feels like about an hour now .... oh, fuck. Apparently, site maintenance DOESN'T mean I can't upload. A+ observational skills, Krumby. Uploading it now and it'll go live whenever it goes live.
In other news: holy crap! I finished writing a book! That's right, the Zaphod Zombie novel (based on these comics) is now written in its entirety, which just so happens to be the titular "10-10-10 Devilmas Miracle" mentioned way at the top of this blog. This is a freaking HUGE deal for me and I'm really excited about it. Seriously, the last time I finished WRITING A BOOK was, like, 2004 or some shit. Granted, Zaphod's book isn't the beefiest piece of literature you'll ever read, but I set my goal to tell a specific story, and I met it perfectly. It only took about 11 months, although I didn't really do a lot of writing between months 2 and 10.
I finished writing on Sunday afternoon, 10-10-10. I had written 1,100 words the night before and was well into the final chapter. Sam went out that afternoon and I hunkered down for the long haul.
On an embarrassingly personal note, there have officially been two times when the process of writing fiction has moved me to the point of tears. The first time was when I was writing the final episode of my Film School Rejects scripts and the second time was this past Sunday. Both scenes had a very strong "letting go" theme, and as embarrassing as it might be, this particular scene in Zaphod's book really moved me emotionally. Will it be as effective to a random reader? I have no idea, but I'm grateful to have been able to write something so moving, if only for myself.
Anyway, in honor of this miracle and in celebration of finishing my second official novel, I'm happy to present the new title of the book and a tentative cover:
