This is what happens when you force creativity. As part of my "engage the community" social strategy, I post a blank panel from the comic strip to Facebook for people to caption. The best/funniest caption gets properly lettered and comic-ified and reposted. Usually, it's fun for all.
But then I posted this panel from the last strip, episode 27, which seemed like a good idea at the time. It's a fun panel with funny expressions and I got about five or six comments with snippets of potential captions.
I foolishly thought that would be enough to craft something funny. Something good. Something ACTUALLY worth posting.
So I sat down at the computer and worked for a few hours last night, trying to smooth out the uncooperative elements of this panel. But no matter what I wrote or what suggestion I tried to incorporate, nothing seemed to work.
Eventually I gave up. I had to. If something's not working, it's just NOT working.
So ... skip the greatness and just shoot for another cup of coffee.
