Touching Gadgets Recap

Along with writing a couple of posts this past week for my gadget (porn) opinion and commentary blog I also rolled out a minor refresh to the site. And there's more to come! I've felt for a while that I have no motivation (and as of late, no TIME) to write, even to blog. So instead, I've been taking my morning drive and vlogging to myself.

You'd think I could just turn on an audio recorder and be done with it, but no -- I actually turn on the camera and start vlogging (like the good old days). But instead of posting it online, eventually I sit down with the video and type it up, edit a little, and post it online. Or at least, that's what I've done with ONE vlog-to-blog. I have about three or four more sitting in the pipeline, waiting to be transcribed.

I THINK it's a good process, at least for Touching Gadgets, and time will tell if I'm even remotely correct.

Here's a recap of all the gadgety-fun (in reverse-chronological order, starting with that aforementioned vlog-to-blog)

I'm *THAT* Guy - 08/22/2013

There are a lot of different aspects to my digital/creative consulting business (which serves Orlando, Winter Park, and Central Florida area). Although I primarily focus on creative consulting for small and online businesses -- I design and build websites, produce videos, and generate creative content -- the other services I offer are technical consulting, recommendations, purchasing assistance, and a little tech support here and there.

It’s recently occurred to me that I REALLY SHOULD emphasize the buying assistance portion of the program because I’m “that guy” family members go to. I’m the tech guy in the office. I’m the guy people go to for help using their new Android phone because the last phone they used was a dumbphone (sorry--FEATUREphone) that was bought in 1998. I’m the guy people go to when they need help using their gadgets and devices, whether it’s Android, iOS, Windows, or miniature-unicorn powered toasters.

OH. EM. GEE. Mac Pro Cinema Ad Rocks out to Muse - 08/24/2013

My fingers .... they're itching to touch the new Mac Pro!!!!

This is, in my humble creative opinion, a brilliant piece of advertising. Apple nailed it and it definitely feels like a call-back to some of their more iconic advertisements.

Google+ is Eating YouTube, one bitter morsel at a time - 08/24/2013

We're already well aware of the unified Google+ login/identification on YouTube, but this was news to me today. Google automatically created a Google+ page for my YouTube channel. I haven't delved into it at all (I don't even use Google+) but the writing is clearly on the wall: Google+ is devouring YouTube. One day, our YouTube channel URL's will simply redirect to a Google+ page.

Could the Wacom Intuos Creative make the iPad mini usable? - 08/26/2013

I should be writing about it soonish, but my experience with drawing on the iPad mini has been pretty bad. Between the lack of bezel and Apple's touch rejection algorithms, even Wacom's comfortable Bamboo Stylus is a pain to use. (The mini's underpowered processor and paltry RAM also don't help.)

Engadget posted a fairly uninformative hands-on of Wacom's new (dropping in October) Bluetooth-enabled stylus. I like the form factor of the Intuos stylus and the Bluetooth connectivity provides some kind of palm-rejection wizardry, which I would hope overrules the iPad mini's in-built algorithms. Even if it doesn't, this pen on a regular iPad might be a joy to use.

WEBCAMS: The YouTube Boob Shot

Ah, the YouTube boob shot. Back in the day (oy!) when the You in YouTube still mattered, many boobalicious busties were quick to capitalize on their crevasse-ish cleavage and, subsequently, blot out any genuine talent that might have been trying to find a foothold on the interwebs. This put male youtubers at a disadvantage, but there were still ways to game the system (strategically placed thumbnails of blissful boobies that may or may not have had anything to do with the video).

Either way, it all comes down to a simple fact of nature: sex sells. And if you stack tits against talent, tits will probably win every time.

Clearly, Darwinism at work.

It's been an exhaustingly busy several weeks.

As previously mentioned, I acquired a new-to-me tablet specifically for illustrative purposes but since it was running Windows, I found myself getting sucked into an abyss of research and troubleshooting .... all because a USB port that I had no practical need for wasn't functioning correctly. The device is under warranty, so I might send it in for repairs after I upgrade again.

(No, there's not a specific tablet in mind, but surely there are new devices on the horizon!)

So this strip was almost completely produced on the Samsung Ativ 500t. I've definitely gotten used to/comfortable with the S-pen against the frictionless glass screen (so much so that I briefly used my Bamboo tablet earlier this evening and was caught off guard with how weird the nib felt).

It's not a perfect strip. One of the particularly frustrating bits was that although I used Sketchbook Pro on the Windows tablet, it's not nearly the same as the "mobile" tablet versions of the software. My old workflow didn't come close to applying, so I spent as much figuring out the new process as I did actually drawing the strip.

Hopefully, more strips will be coming soon. I have them written, at least, but again -- it's been busy!

Disastergeddon: It's Like Sharknado. Kinda.

Disastergeddon!
an apocalyptic novel by Jordan Krumbine

It's like SyFy Channel's
Sharknado.

But without
TARA REID.

Picture
"Is that a shark?"

Also, there are no sharks in jordan Krumbine's
DISASTERGEDDON

Picture
Shark within a shark within another shark. It's sharkception. Source: Uncyclopedia.

So Disastergeddon! is like Sharknado.

kinda.

(but not really.)

Instead of sharks, disastergeddon! has dinosaurs.

Picture

And instead of tara Reid,
Disastergeddon! has

aliens

a vampire-human hybrid

and a chick that hulks-out and is called
juggernaughty.

Even without Sharks and Tara Reid,
DIsastergeddon! would make a great SyFy original movie.

Which is why Jordan Krumbine Wrote them a letter pitching just that.

(they never responded. assholes. I love you?)

Explorers of the Unknown:
Disastergeddon!

it's just like Sharknado.

Only not really.
